Novus Contagion

You were kidnapped and injected with some kind of alien virus as part of a secret experiment. Now the virus is spreading and your only hope is that the scientist that injected you also has an antidote. So with no other options, you set off deeper into the facility.

The lab security will not let you go easily though, so you must fight your way there without getting killed. However, your level of infection will be increasing the entire time and should the bar around your health fill up, the infection will consume you.

As your infection progresses though, you will slowly unlock abilities that grow in power as your infection spreads. The icons for these abilities will light up as you unlock them. Reducing your infection can make you lose access to these abilities until your infection reaches those levels again.

The GDD is included in the files below as well for anyone who wants to see the initial scope of the game as well as the thought process behind the design. As its my first GDD I've ever written, any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Made for Pirate Software Jam 14. The theme was "It's Spreading" which was represented by the player having a slowly spreading infection that they have to keep under control throughout their journey.

Cool little shooter game, laser was pretty satisfying to blast the enemies with. I almost always exclusively saved up just to use it! The rooms were quite big though and I found there was a lot of down time traversing. The screen crop is a little off to so had to wander around a bit to find the exit and couldn't see where my HP or MP meter was at. The game was also a bit laggy at times.

Sorry about the odd cropping! I'll see if I can tweak it a bit more so it shows up on itch better. I'm working on trying to cut down on the lag too. Had to do some very last minute optimization so it's still a bit scuffed. I'm planning to put out an update after the Jam rating period ends with some of the features I had to cut last minute and I'm hoping to also have the performance in a much better spot in that update too. Thanks for playing and the feedback!
